Obituary for Karen A. Mercier

Karen A. Mercier, 83, Dyckesville, passed away Sunday evening, December 3, 2023, with family at her side.  She was born March 6, 1940, in Brussels to the late Wilmer E. and Lillian M. (Delwiche) De Jardin.  On October 10, 1959, Karen married Marvin J. Mercier at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brussels. On September 8, 2022, her heart was broken when Marvin passed away, after nearly 63 years together.

When Karen married Marvin, she became a farmer’s wife.  She also picked apples at the local orchards.  In 1972, she began a 47 year career as a School Bus Driver, where she made many lasting friendships.  Adults would still approach her saying “Remember me? You were my bus driver!”

Karen was an avid Packer, Badger, Bucks, Brewer, and Luxemburg Casco sports fan. She was a member of the Ralph Kline American Auxiliary Unit 262 in Luxemburg.

Her friends meant a lot to her, enjoying weekly breakfast dates, three times a week.  Dinner with friends was also a highlight.

Survivors include her family, which she truly enjoyed spending time with, three children, Michele (Don Jr.) Delebreau, Mike (Jean) Mercier, Chris Mercier; nine grandchildren, Brad Delebreau, Jody Alsteen, Chad Alsteen, Nick (Jane) Alsteen, Bill (Mary) Alsteen, Katie (Chris) Jansen, Sadie Mercier, Sophia Mercier (Carter), Jackie Mercier (Dustin); seventeen great grandchildren; three brothers, Aaron (Carole) De Jardin, Marvin (Sue) De Jardin, Galen (Sue) De Jardin; many nieces, nephews and friends.
